question about wm9 encodes

Wow, that's a blast from the past! I now work for Microsoft.
Can you tell me which AVI codecs you tried for RGB and YUV?

I am new to the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series. I had the same problem as=
the attached message below from 3+ years ago mentioned, i.e. the encoder =
produces images that are brighter than the source images and color isn't =
preserved perfectly (even at high bitrates). I have tried this with AVI =
files in both RGB and YUV formats.
- Is this a feature/bug with the encoder?
- is this a problem with my settings?

Just to verify, if you encode in RGB24 or YUY2, and play the .avi and the resulting .wmv file, the .wmv file appears brighter than its source avi file?

The two files I am using were created from VirtualDub - one saved as RGB24 and the other saved as YCbCr 4:2:2 (YUY2).

The encoding works fine. Its just that the output video that is shown is noticeably brighter.

Hi All,

I understand that this isn't the first time an inquiry has been made
about WM9 STBs, but has anything changed? Amino says that they will have
one sometime Q3, but that keeps getting pushed out. Any suggestions
would be much appreciated.

Hi We have been developing a WM set top box for the last year or so.
We are calling it the StreamSurfer. We are actually going to start
selling it this week as a BETA (Friday, fingers crossed).

It is built on Windows CE, has s-video and composite video out, as well
as stereo RCA out. You can attach a wifi USB dongle to it (a specific
one, US Robotics MAXg). We are also integrating WM DRM for private
network services and ppv/subscriptions.

We developed it b/c we could not find a STB on the market we liked. The
price will be $299 for the unit. It will come with all the cables
necessary. It also comes with a tv-style remote control.

I will drop the list a link to the StreamSurfer site when the unit is
available for sale. In the meantime if anyone wants a guided tour,
e-mail me off the list, I can talk you through the system and show you
how it works in our online demo environment.

We are looking for content partners, marketing partners, basically
anyone that could help. So, expect to hear more from us/me in the
coming days.

Thanks,

Troy
