Is anonymous FTP not allowed?

It works for me. However, that message is often a symptom of a
misconfigured firewall in the path. Specify a - as the leading
character of the ftp password to suppress the lengthy message; that
will make some of those firewalls happy.

Thanks for the replies. It would not at all surprise me if our
firewall was misconfigured.
