    this brings up another issue, I think it would be beneficial for the ASF to join the W3C, but
    we're currently not a Member organization.

    FWIW, I'd like to see this happen as well. I believe Commons SCXML is
    an example where we're beginning to see useful interactions between
    the ASF and the W3C, and IM, the ASF can only gain by being a W3C
    member.
    If we stare at the W3C member list
    we see members such as:
    * ASIS
    * Mozilla
    and it is probably time to float this thought at the ASF.
    So, a couple of questions:
    * Anyone else has any views on this?
    * What would be the appropriate ASF forum to begin this conversation?

    You definitely need to send such a wish to the general xml list at least.
    Note also much w3c interaction can be done without membership

    Sounds good, thanks. Will move this to general@xml when I get a chance.

    True, though the members only sections interest me, and may possibly
    be of interest to others as well. I'll ask.

    Remembered there was a discussion about membership of the w3c. A quick search gave me only this
    though :

    Mvgr,
    Martin

    Cool, looks like this isn't the first time someone thought about this
    (as I was fully expecting). Need to find the right people at either
    end to see if we can make any further progress

    At this end, I'd suggest starting with community@a.o, since that covers
    people on all projects. Certainly commons-dev isn't the right place for a
    broad audience. ;-)

    Just testing the waters ;-) Will go to community@ in a day or two
    then, and might ping general@xml about the thread on community@ since
    I tend to agree to an extent with Paul (and all of them might not be
    on community@)
