Hi Jean,
There are several tecniques depending on the type of switch you use.
could be to cascade the switches, but it is not supported for all the FC
switches. It means that you add to your zones the crossed FC.
There are also some protocols which can do it automatically but it is much
work to configure it.
In this case to explain how to have a redundat system you must consider
that:
1 - you must always to have to paths to the SAN
2 - These paths must be on separate switches
3 - Much of the work is done by the system driver
So if you have 2 cards
1 Must go to the first switch and one to the other
To have a better system, on the other system go to the other (if you have a
cluster)
In the zone on SW 1 you have SAN HBA 1 and Server FC on SW 1
In the zone on SW 2 you have SAN HBA 2 and Server FC on SW 2
Same on the second
Zones should't have the same name, but it is a good practise IMH to have
similar names.
If one switch fail the driver will switch to the other card, you loose
performance but you implement HA.
If you loose one card you can switch to the other (automatically)
If 2 switches fail you can go with direct attached schema and one server
will continue to work.
As I told you, much of the work has to be done by the driver. This is the
reason it is so important to take the right one (PowerPath from EMC, SDD
from IBM, RDAC from IBM). All the drivers (most of them) on AIX are load
balancing and fault tollerant. It is not true on other Ss.
Crossing the switches if a switch port fail you prevent loss in performances
creating an additional path.
I hope to be clear.
Stefano

Thanks again Stefano,
In fact there was no zone defined, I created the zones but I could see the
second server only after reboot. It's now.
more thing, when defining the zones on two dedundant switches, do I need
to give the same name to zones and config ?
What make the link between the two switches ?
Thanks

Consider this: The HBA must be in the same zone of the SAN HBAs.
To open the switches take their IP addresses.
Then http://IPF_YUR_SWITCH
Here the default user is admin and the default password should be password.
them
An applet should come out.
At the end you found zoning: you should retype the login and password.
Check the active cofniguration
Check where the EMC hbaa are placed (using their wwn). Add your new HBAs to
that zone.
Now, do it on both the switches (also if it is not the best routing IMH,
but it is suefult to give you the opportunity to work).
Save
Apply the changes
Wait for commit.
Go to the configuration
Save it
Apply it and enable it.
Now you should be ok.
It takes 15 minutes.

Thanks Stefano,
Do you mean FC interfaces ?
I am a newbe in Switches especialy zoning, I don't know how to check for
good configuration but I can enter the switch by the Web Tool.
There are two Brocade Silkworm 3250/3850 switches.
Thanks

Jean,
Are the switches (because I'm quite sure that you have a switched env)
setted up correctly?
If the remote server is not visible, usually I try to reboot first, then to
remove interfaces and to run a cfgmgr (please, check the switch before!).
Could you check if the leds on the back of the server are switched on or are
blinking?
If they are blinking probably the system cannot recognize the switch or the
zoning configuration is probably wrong.
Check also that the speed is setted up to auto sensitive on the switch side.
Let us know.
Stefano

the second server from Entreprise Storage HSTS, MNITR even STRAGE when I
go to CNNECTIVITY STATUS. It is a new system, can anybody can tell me what
is wrong with the setting ?
Thanks

Just include in the storage group also the other server (I do not matter how
many they are, you should include the WWPN of the HBA on the second server)
to the storage group.
If you forsee to put the in clusting, use the same major number. In this way
you just need to write a script to vary off the VG on the first system and
to vary on on the second system.
Clariion can manage multiple servers on the same storage group at the same
time, it is just a matter of File System.
If you need more specific help, let me know.
