    Hi,
I keep getting this thing in the output of checksetup.pl:
DBI connect('test','',) failed: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'
    (using password: N)
Maybe I need to edit my.conf ? reinstall ? Is there a simple workaround ?
After working with for some 8 years, I now encounter the same old
    beginners problems all over again
    My bugzilla version: 2.18.1
    Perl: 5.8.5
    Mysql: 4.1.12
    S: Red Hat 2.6.9-5.0.5.ELsmp

You need to issue a GRANT statement to mysql (the bugzilla docs have
details) to assign appropriate permissions to the database user bugzilla
is supposed to use. Then, change localconfig to use that db_user value
and its corresponding mysql password (not 'root' as it seems to have now).

Did you set $db_user and $db_pass in the "localconfig" file? Does
    checksetup output any other errors?

Running checksetup.pl for the first time creates the localconfig file.
If it doesn't create the localconfig file, you may have other
problems. Are you using a normal tarball of Bugzilla downloaded from
the website? Are you on a machine that has SELinux enabled? (Such as
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 or Fedora Core 3? If so, try doing
"setenforce 0" before checksetup.pl and "setenforce 1" after running
    it.)

    Thanks anyway,

I have reinstalled the whole thing, beginning with MySQL.
    And now success.
I had before installed Mysql from download instead of following the official
    RedHat menu path.
