Yes while it is booting from the CD you don't need that info anyway. If you have hot-swappable drives you can power the primary HDD backup while the server completes it's boot cycle from the CD.

I thought about that but won't the rootvg data (residing on that drive)
that I need to change (/etc/hosts) be unavailable as well?

Unplug power source to HDD and the server should boot from the CD (next
available source)!

Hello Everyone,
I have a pseries machine running AIX 4.3.3. I'm trying to get
to the
SMS menu during boot but I can't get there. I came across
several tips
online that suggested hitting different keys (function keys F1,
F4 F5 or
the 1, 4, 5 keys) but I can't seem to get them to work.
I'm stuck in a bit of a loop because I have an invalid IP
address for a
remote server and the RS/6000 is attempting to mount an NFS
share on
that server so the boot process hangs at that point. The other
problem
is the boot list is setup to boot from (in order) disk, CD, and
then
tape so I can't boot from CD or tape to get the menu. I
get to the
SMS menu I can get the invalid NFS mount resolved.
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
Jim
