Tue 19-Apr-2005: I have made an update of my MS-DS batch FAQ
collection. Since I no longer have an MS-DS PC available, all the
new testing has been done on a Windows95 PC. This dos not, however,
imply that the collection has changed its, in some cases limited
    MS-DS specific nature.

The collection includes a number of References/Comments using
Google links. Google's system has changed, so some of the old
notation no longer worked. The syntax has been seen to.
Added a directory history capability to "C.BAT Lazy changing of
    directory".
Added to the 1BATFAQ.TXT FAQ file
    166) How do I uppercase all the filenames in a directory?
    167) How can I create a one byte file? Not two, one.
    All the best, Timo

    Timo:

VmWare recently released a free 'player'. VmWare is now using the
Adobe Acrobat (and others) tactic of providing a free player, in the
hopes that more people will buy full version that allows creation of
    the VMs.

I know you have an XP machine that could run this player, and a DS VM
could be set to use as little as 4MB of RAM, so the required resources
    wouldn't be bad.

I'm quite sure you have a license for MS-DS 6.22, if not then please
correct me. If you'd like, I will set up a VM for you so that you
could continue to use DS. Feel free to reply via e-mail if you
    prefer.

VmWare is a wonderful product. I bought my first license over 5 years
ago when I had four computers hobbled together with a hub and a
passive(cheap) KVM switch. Now I've got one healthy laptop that can
easily run all four of those old machines' Ses at the same time.

    Thanks,

Yes, Clay, I indeed do. Looking a my bookshelf I seem to have more
than one original set of MS-DS 6.22 and earlier disks. I also have
a very old Dell laptop with MS-DS 5.0, which I have not scrapped. I
haven't, however, used it for, must be at least two or three years
now. (MS-DS 5.0 is not a bad version at all, unlike the sorry 4.0,
or the a bit too limited 3.3)

If you'd like, I will set up a VM for you so that you could
    continue to use DS.

Thanks for the nice offer. I think I'll pass, though, at least for
the time being. The reason simply is that my interest in the old
MS-DS a personal tool is steeply on the wane. And the batch FAQ
collection is already at quite a "mature" state. Most of the
motivation of my FAQ writing comes from the tasks I continue to use
and need myself. Hence my emphasis now is on XP. I just happened to
have some loose ends I wanted to tie in tsbat82, and to rectify the
    altered Google referencing.

P.S. I am redirecting to alt.msdos.batch. The automated upload
script set comp.archives.msdos.d but my followup is
    alt.msdos.specific.

    All the best, Timo

ISTM that a DEBUG script will do that, avoiding imports.

Understood. VmWare is very handy, though. You might want to check
out the player and the Linux "Browser Appliance" also on the download
    site.
