Right again, thanks Ingo. It does work. In Debian it's in / .
Although, when running KDE above version 3.5, we're not supposed to use Multisync or Kitchensync anymore, so this service should probably be deleted. Supposed to use SynCE konnector, although I can't make that work either another story. After my best efforts, Kitchensync, Multisync, and SynCE are all busted. SynCE may be fixable, if I had days to troubleshoot and repair it. Sure wish it worked.
Go to Settings->Edit Filters. Click on Add. Give the filter a name,
say "No goats or emus". Mark Goats and Emus. Enable "Show all contacts
except those matching []".
KAddressBook automatically adds filters for categories, but for anything
else you'll have to create your own filters.
Thank you. Now that it looks like KDEPIM is going to work out, it's time to RTFM.

recently-created categories show up? Categories created a year ago
(Friends, Family), simply do not show up.
That's probably a bug. Does any contact in the used address book
actually belong to one of those categories?
Yes. Those categories which actually show up, show their proper contacts. But oddly, the name of a new addressbook is there along with the newer categories, and the name of my older addressbook is not, nor are my older categories.
