I use subversion repositories for lots of things.
I have installed the subversion kioslave on my Kubuntu 6.06-1 main
    desktop system.
So, having done that, where do I find some documentation on actually
    using the svn kioslave?
After a bit of messing around, I got it to the point where pointing
konq at a repository shows me the the most recent version ok, but I
can't figure out how to look at things like older versions or lists of
    changes to individual files.

Thank you very much for your helpful reply.

I didn't have kdesvn installed (I was using kdesdk-kio-plugins, which,
according to the description was a "subversion io slave for KDE"; I'm
not sure why there are two such slaves, but I guess I had chosen the
wrong one). I have now replaced kdesdk-kio-plugins with kdesvn.

Subversion repository. If so, open the repository (with the svn kioslave) or
a working copy in Konqueror, then go View->View Mode->SVN client or use the
toolbar button. You will then have some more toolbar buttons and a Subversion
menu. Some functions can also be accessed by right-clicking on files.

So things are quite a bit better now that I am running kdesvn, but
still not completely right. When I am in ordinary "View detailed list"
mode, things seems pretty sensible, but when I go to "SVN client" mode
as you suggest, I can't figure out how to view the contents of a file.
It seems that single-clicking no longer works to view a file, and
double-clicking produces the following error message:
Could not start process: unable to create io-slave
    klauncher said: Unknown protocol: 'ksvn+svn'

I can view a file in ordinary "detailed list" mode as usual by
clicking on a file, so that's good; it just seems to be the "SVN
cient" mode that still isn't quite right.

Not yet. I did run kdeinit, though, which I think should have the same effect.

I'll log out when I can, but it may be a day or two.

I did check the listing of protocols under Konq Previews & Meta-Data,
and there is no "ksvn+svn" protocol listed, so I am pretty sure that
logging out and restarting isn't going to change anything, and that
I'm missing something that implements "ksvn+svn" (whatever that is).
But I'll try it when I can, and report back here what happened.

I couldn't stand waiting for all my work jobs to finish :-) I killed
the jobs and logged out and logged back in.

Unfortunately it was as I expected. I still get the same error when
double-clicking: Kate tries to start and says:
Could not start process: unable to create io-slave

What version of kdesvn are you running?

The latest in the 64-bit dapper repository is 0.7.2. I have contacted
the author of kdesvn, and he says that the behaviour I am seeing is
indeed a bug that was present in 0.7.2 (and has since been fixed). So
if you aren't seeing it, then something very strange is going on.

I have kdesvn version 0.11.0-1 (latest from Debian sid).

K; that explains why it works for you. It's always nice to solve a puzzle.

I guess I am stuck unless/until someone packages a later version for dapper.
