  • OT - re-sending email in mbox file

Not to turn this into alt.support.sendmail, but does anyone know a way
to resend email that's stored in a user mbox file? I've got several
dozen messages stashed in a user file and I would like to be able to
find a way to feed them back to sendmail for normal delivery.
Seems simple enough, but I just can't seem to come up with the right
keywords to coax Google into revealing the secret.

A number of MTA's will let you tag and bounce a set of messages (I
know mutt will). procmail has a mode where you can feed in a full
mbox and it'll split and reinject it into sendmail with a given
    recipient address.

There's probably more solutions than there are people on the list, but
those are the two I've used.

Got procmail? If not, why not? :-)

    Try formail:

    formail -s sendmail -oi user@host < mbox

It is something like that (this is from memory).

Take a look at this response I sent on the mailhelp list in 2003. Maybe
    it will help.

I also wrote a document for Red Hat a loooooooong time ago (it's way out
of date now) which answers the same question:

Why yes, I do. But is this the secret virtual handshake of some
    procmail conspiracy? :-)

    formail -s sendmail -oi user@host < mbox

You have a good memory. Turned out to be exactly the solution.

Many thanks to all who replied.
