There's no way to feed a QT file directly into WMEnc. Are you on a Mac (or
have access to one)? Telestream's Flip4mac works quite well to shoot right
out of QT Player Pro into WMV. a Windows box you can save out of QT Pro
as an AVI using the DV/DVCPro codec.

You could also use a third party software such as

    ProCoder
    Cleaner
    MediaReactor (our product)

to go directly from a QT Mov in PhotoJPEG and most other codecs to WMV.

Pretty sure Media Encoder uses DirectShow as the source. If this is
the case you could try install the "Quicktime Alternative", which is a
    DirectShow source/parser filter Quicktime.

Well let me give a bit more data. I have been able to feed Quicktime
Photo-Jpeg movies directly into windows media encoder 9 for some time. I am
    working on the windows platform.

A year or two ago I came across an AVI codec called LEAD Video Codec. This
is basically a JPEG AVI codec. By accident I found that if I had this codec
installed, I could now feed photo-jpeg Quicktime movies directly into
windows media encoder (on the PC). This was a great find and I have been
using it ever since, even though it was "not meant to be".

I just recently loaded a new encoding machine and this was not working on it
so I threw the question out there to see if others has some workaround on
    this

Yes, I have used cleaner and it does work but windows media encoder is
free as is this LEAD Codec (eval version).

I also could have sworn that I saw a plug-in on the mocrosoft site that
enabled quicktime as a source for windows media encoder but I have not been
    able to find this.

    Anyways thanks for the suggestions.

    Best,

    Sean

AFAIK, the QT Alternative dshow filter just provides the dshow filter
functionality and uses QT itself to decode the data. Doesn't it
require that you have QT installed Chris? IIRC, that's what it did
the last time I installed it.

You can have both installed, the QT Alternative installer is careful
to make sure it doesn't step on the full Quicktime install. However
most users who wish to be Apple free uninstall full Quicktime and then
install the Alternative or on a clean machine just install the
    Alternative.

Media Player Classic is a cute little DirectShow player that works
pretty well. A very good test bench for testing DShow playback.

I have nothing against the Quicktime format itself, they have
developed some good technology. I just have strong objections to
players that are either excessively large, extremely annoying (such as
asking to upgrade everytime you start), or extremely difficult to
download (Real Player fits here). Surprisingly I used to love Real in

competitive compared to WMV. I'd love Telestream to port Flip4Mac to
Windows. You haven't taught compression until you've used QuickTime Player
Pro in "Play All Frames" and "Play All Movies." It'll simultaneously play
all open movies, and reduce frame rate so that it can play them all in
perfect sync with no dropped frames. Great way to compare two files. And
it has great facility to pass through already encoded media with some
    changes.

Honestly, the best of both worlds for content creators would be to have
Apple treat WMV as a 1st class citizen for file format support in QuickTime.
