I think it has been mentioned, I know I did. Did you check the CDRM
microcode ? This is a known issue.

Well, here's where I am with this:
I was able to get an old version (4.3.2) installed with no issues
Whether I insert the 4.3.3 or the 5.1 CD, the system does not do
    anything, it does not boot.
I went to IBM's site and downloaded and installed the microcode updat
    es
for the Processor and firmware, but to no avail.
I can get into the the SMS menu to setup the boot list, and set it to
the CDRM, but for some reason, will not read my DISK 1 from either
    version 4.3.3 or 5.1
    Thanx

    Just type:
1)bootlist -m normal cd0 hdisk0 (in that case if for some reason th
    e
    CD fails
at least hdisk0 would boot up).
    Then,
    2) bootlist -m normal -o ( to verify if the boot sequence is set as
    CDrom
    and hdisk0)
    3) When it starts booting make sure you go through the seletcion
    sequence and
seletct make you correction option ( migration or installation)

    try bootlist -m cdrom hdisk0

you should wait until the LED in the f50 shows E1F1 and press F
