I am looking for a webcam which can be telephoned and then use a browswer to
examine its latest picture or to tell it to update. Is there such an animal
    and if so, where? Costs?
It does not have to be an expensive camera since I just want it to look for
outdoor snow cover on a remote area.

    Hi George,

What I would suggest is perhaps getting a wireless camera (IP Based); which
would stream to a central unit. You would however, need to amalgamate that
    onto a multiplexor / DVR.

As far as I know, there is no such technology which allows you to directly
dial into a camera. You would have to have it connected to a DVR (Digital
Video Recorder) from there you can implement a dialup feature to allow
incoming connections to few stream; however, the easiest alternative is to
    webcast.

Thanks. Some cameras seem to host their own website. But they seem to
require something called FAST ethernet, which Direcway does not offer. What
about SLW ethernet? Don't know. I wonder if anyone here has actually done
a remote webcam setup on Direcway?

There seem to be some cameras which host their own WWW pictures but I was
wondering about why they require 'fast' ethernet when Direcway is about
    dial-up speed on the upload.

pictures tend to be large files. dialup speed is slow. Attaching a modem to
the camera costs money and if only 1 person in 10000 who buys the camera
will use it, why would any company include it?
