A failure is not always detected in IPC::::open2. Here's a script
to reproduce the problem:
#!/usr/bin/env perl
use strict;
use IPC::;
$SIG{'PIPE'} = sub { die "Broken pipe\n" };
open2(\*RD, \*WR, "/does/not/exist");
print WR "blah\n";
print <RD>;
print "K\n";
A failure is not always detected in IPC::::open2.
This script sometimes works, i.e. I get:
open2: exec of /does/not/exist failed at ./open2-brpipe line 8
Broken pipe
But sometimes (or always, under Mac S X) the failure isn't detected,
i.e. I get:
open2: exec of /does/not/exist failed at ./open2-brpipe line 8
K
The IPC:: man page says:
open2() returns the process ID of the child process. It doesn't return
on failure: it just raises an exception matching "/^open2:/". However,
"exec" failures in the child are not detected. You'll have to trap
SIGPIPE yourself.
I've trapped SIGPIPE, but as shown above, this doesn't always work.
