There are a number of other image libraries which don't come with
source code according to the data on their Web sites. Either they
have DLL's or ActiveX's. If the interface .dcu or .tlb is in source
form, as it usually is, there may be no problem in updating to a new
version of Delphi, at least up until now. However, when the supplier
"Goes over the Jordan", like two of them which I used heavily, one
can be stuck with something that is neither extendible nor
maintainable. Since that happened to me with both an image and a 3D
graphic library, (Pgraphic, ), I vowed never to pay for
anything which doesn't include full commented source code, even if it
can perform wonders (which ImageLib can't). I prefer to use
something which is open source and on one of the big open source servers.
Envision was mentioned in this thread. It is reasonably priced and
includes source code. It has far fewer features than Imageen, but
it's cheaper. I don't know if it's extendible. LeadTools costs many
times more than Envision or Imageen and does not include source as
far as I can tell. If anyone reading this has used other image
packages which have source, please reply.
