    I can't see much risk in this. the other hand I'm not sure I see the
    point to it either.
    It should be "safe" because all chvg does in this case is to update the
    metadata in the DM to remember not to varyonvg the volume group during
    boot up. You won't see any effect until then.
    If you can't vary the volume group off now that must mean it's being
    used for something. That something won't work very well if the vg comes
    up offline the next time you reboot. Unless there's a wrinkle to this
    that I'm missing:-)

    restart from Yes to No on an active VG. The system is used, the VG
