As a web developer, here's my 2 cents on winning the new browser
    wars
To win the new browser war, a company should not look only forward, but
    backwards as well.
If a browser was developed to support all the cool new stuff like AJAX,
but also do it cross platform, but also legacy platform versions as
well, it would have a stranglehold on the development community.
For instance, if a new browser supported Windows 98 and above, Mac S 9
and above and maybe Linux, then it would have a real advantage in the
market. As computers get faster, there is less reason to upgrade, so
this will only become more of a problem over time.
As a developer, I always run up against the problem of wanting to adopt
new technologies, such as Ajax or CSS layouts, but I need to cater to
older S platforms, therefore, I must always cater to the lowest common
denominator. I think this is the case for many developers.
Another thing that would be nice are some more rich tags in HTML, for
one thing, a WYSIWYG text editor html tag (with spell check) would be
great, so I would not need to implement a 3rd party solution. A tree
menu tag would be nice too. Most developers want to do this rich
interactive stuff anyway, might as well make it formalized so it will
be less error prone and easier for developers to implement.
That's my rant for now. Please consider it.
