I want to install the leafnode news server. SUSE knows about this
program, YaST called for the DVD to install it. The name of the
program appeared in the upper right pane of the window. I Accepted
this and waited for the installation to take place. The system,
pretending that it had installed the package, then asked me if I
    wanted to install anything else.
Is my DVD corrupt? Whether it is or not, how can I find a valid rpm to
    install on the system?

Please pardon me for responding to my own posting.

I've just had a similar experience in trying to install a third party
rpm from HD. I changed the installation source, YaST saw the rpm
package, I acccepted it, and immediately YaST asked me if I wanted to
install another package. So it seems that the installation I describe
above had nothing to do with the integrity of the DVD disk.

I have installed several packages from the DVD, and all except that
one were successful. What may be the cause of the two failures I have
    now seen?

If you don't mind working from the command line, then install apt4rpm and
    then type:

    # apt-get install leafnode

    Just Google for "apt4rpm" -- there's also a SuSE-specific page if you
    Google for "apt4rpm suse".

I certainly don't mind working from the command line, but need to know
what commands to use and what the syntax should be is there a
    decent basic guide anywhere?

A bit like DS but no it's not!!

Well, on the two apt4rpm pages I made reference to there are plenty of
guides and tutorials. Everything I needed to know about apt4rpm I learned
    there.
