How do I delete recent addresses from Kmails composer?
I open the composer, select the "to" button, and have a list of recent
addresses. Most of these I've only used once, and want to remove them. I've
been into .kde config kmailrc , and removed them manually, but they keep
coming back. How can I remove these unused addresses so that the list will
contain ones I'm using more often? There are as far as I can see no entries
in the address book, as I've never setup address book entries.
    Nigel.

Edit that file when kmail is not running. Start KMail after saving the
    edited file.

Apologies. I'd edited the file when Kmail was minimised in the taskbar.
Closing Kmail seems too have resolved the problem, and the unwanted entries
    are gone.

    Thanks for the help.

The right way to do this:

Settings -Configure KMail -Composer -Edit Recent Addresses

A Ha! I hadn't noticed that before! Feel like Tom sawyer. Pick the hard way

The problem is though, that "Edit Recent Addresses" isn't in FC2's Kmail
version-1.6.2, but I'll look on FC5 a bit later on.

Boyan. Thanks for the path though.

I have clicked through that sequence numerous times. I find Settings, then
Configure KMail, then Composer, but never find a "Edit Recent Addresses"
option in Composer screen. I don't find it in any of the other screens
either. I am running Kmail 1.8.2 using KDE 3.4.2.

I also didn't find the file that was to be edited. (I looked with the option
    of displaying hidden files.)

I too would like prune the list. Any suggestions?

Did you select the 'General' tab in the Composer configuration window?
Another thing I always say consider updating?

I did check that tab -- and every other tab in all of the different sections
    (security, accounts, etc.)

I must confess that I am always hesitant to upgrade for fear that I'll break
the whole thing, The minor inconvenience of extra names is something I can
    live with.

Could have been added in a later version.

It should definitely be there. You could try the following commad

$ kwriteconfig kmailrc General "Recent Addresses" ""

    Cheers,
    Kevin
