    Hello!
With KDE getting all those new technologies, restructuring, polishing etc etc,
are there any directions in which kdegames module will be developed?
I mean new games, some cool features?
I'm asking because I just joined and may not be aware of some general plan in
this area (if there is one :) ).
Maybe some source of information exists I don't know about?
If so, please point me in the right direction ;).
    Dmitry.

Yes, we want to have kdegames use more cool features. New games are
at the moment not likely - rather remove some older ones :)

So if you feel like it, add as many cool features as you like.

    Greetings, Stephan

Well, Pino and me have kombination in the pipelene for when we get bored of
    developing okular.

Everyone is welcome to contribute to it obviously.

    See

I also developed kiriki ( http://home.gna.org/kiriki/ ) that is mostly
finished and i'm not sure it's worth including in kdegames (although is a
    complete clone of a gnome-games game )

So if you feel like it, add as many cool features as you like.

of the most requested things is non fixed sizes for things, for example,
kmahjongg could easily benefit from using SVG tiles so they can be rendered
on the fly on any size the user wants.

Great, looking forward to this one :)

I'd vote for adding Kiriki to kdegames (or at least extragear).

Hmm, who would want to play dices with a computer? That's something for
    familiy evenings not computers :)

Yes. I'm working on kpat to make SVG cards possible as first step :)

    Why?

If it also had AI you won't oppose?

Well I'll admit that few things annoy me more than finding an interesting game
that I can't actually play because I need to find some other sap to play it
at 3 in the morning. ;)

That's prime time for somebody somewhere. :)

I wonder if a built-in Game Spy like thingy for libkdegames is out of
the question? Probably not for 4.0 but maybe in the 4.1 timeframe?
Giving any KDE multiplayer game out-of-the-box capability to connect
players around the world seems like a worthy enough cause.

We would need some sort of server somewhere for an initial connection,
but I think keeping subsequent communications peer-to-peer can keep
the requirements of the server fairly low.

    *shrug* Just thinking out loud

Sure. it looks to me like a pure online game. If it's not, forget my comment.

I was thinking to propose the addition of my game KsirK which works not too
bad. You can play with up to 6 players (in the default skin, it's completly
themable), each of them being the computer or a real humans. Also, each
player (human or computer) can be on the internet or on the same GUI.

There is two problems not unsolvable: graphics are, well, not really good even
if expresive (I can critisize as I the "artist") and the AI is not
intelligent enough. The tactics are good but I had not the time to finish the
    strategies.

I think that KsirK would gain a lot to be included in KDE as it could win some
artists and some translators. And also some more developers as I am now more
involved in other projects and up to now I was never able to attract more
    people on the project.

If you are iterested, you can have a look at its URL in my signature.

    Regards,

    Kleag

P.S.: porting to GraphicsView and SVG would propably not be too difficult.

wow, would be very cool the idea is great. you can get playing in a
    minute that way.

But only if you are connected to the net.

Remember that there are still people without constant connection who would
like to play games alone. So please don't drop the AI

For server centric gaming there is the GGZ Gaming zone
(http://www.ggzgamingzone.org/). of their activists is KDE's Josef
Spillner (the one who brought us KHotNewStuff), who would surely welcome more
integration between KDE games and GGZ.

For peer-to-peer a serverless approach using Bonjour would also very
interesting (think group in a room without net access).

    Friedrich
