    Hi,
I have a book on real time embedded systems but I would like to start
getting my hands dirty on some RTS. Which RTS would be the easiest to
learn from? Possibly free and that I can download from the internet.
    thanks

I suggest you to buy the following book: "MicroC/II - The real time
    kernel" by J.Labrosse.
The book is cheap, gives you an excellent background about RTS in
    general, explain you
how MicroC/II works and contains a CD-RM with the kernel source
    files which
can be used not for commercial purposes, but help you to learn about
    RTS.

    Regards

    /Alessandro

I can recommend this and the documentation on the site explains how the
RTS works very well and very clearly.

I used to work with RTEMS. It was okay, but I would imagine that
better-supported, more accessible free RTS's are availablehowever,
    it did work without problems.

More accessible? It's a free download. It's open source. Users are
    encouraged to contribute.

Better supported? There is a mailing list at
which is monitored by AR Corp.
people. You can also get classes and support through AR Corp (yes, you
do have to pay for those).

    Ivan,

MapuSoft offers products to move applications from one RTS to another
and to develop applications that can run on multiple operating systems.
This way you can write one application and test it out on many
different RTS to chose which RTS works best for you. More information
about MapuSoft's products S Changer, S Abstractor and S PAL can be
    found at www.mapusoft.com

Try QNX Neutrino RTS vers. 6.3 (QNX6.3) a 30 days eval version is
    available. ( http://www.qnx.com )

I'm sure the previous free version (QNX 6.2, free for non-commerc. use)
is still available in the internet.

    thanks
