Looking for an Instructor & Course ...

Hi all --
Delphi is a wonderful language fact, I can't figure out why anyone would
choose C++ when Delphi is around! However, it's hard to find an instructor
to help. I'd really love to take an organized class at the
intermediate/advanced beginner level. (I've got the basics down pat don't
need to be told how to set up Delphi, and I don't need to make projects
converting Celsius to Fahrenheit :-)
These classes don't seem to exist. I've looked for face-to-face and online
classes teaching Delphi, and I can't find anything (other than some
expensive multi-day workshops in cities far away from me, and one equally
expensive online class for beginners in S. Africa). This is where one or
more of you folks may come in.
Anyone out there interested in setting up an online class in Delphi
programming? It's not necessarily the model to follow, but take a look at
John Smiley's web site for an idea of how it might go (www.johnsmiley.com).
You'd have some initial work to set things up, but after having taught a
class once or twice you'd be in a position to continue teaching it with much
less time and effort.
If you're interested, reply to the group. Perhaps you can start to get a
sense of how much people would be willing to pay for, say, a ten or twelve
week course. If that's too daunting, consider even a six week course
(covering less, of course). If you've written a book, your book could be the
course's text. I won't discuss possibilities further now; let's see how
much interest exists.
However, if there is interest, I'd even be willing to help someone a little
bit getting set up as a resource to bounce ideas off of. I'm a
Delphi hobbyist, but a professional educator. who's in search of a good
intermediate/advance beginner online Delphi class :-)
Thanks -- Al C

Hi Alan,

If you're interested, reply to the group. Perhaps you can start to get a
sense of how much people would be willing to pay for, say, a ten or twelve
week course. If that's too daunting, consider even a six week course
(covering less, of course). If you've written a book, your book could be the

I organise my own Delphi training, divided into six to eight days of
specific topics, using a 100-180 page courseware manual for each day.
The manuals are written in English, and also for sale (I've just reduced
the price for the Delphi 2005 manuals, since I'm now working on the
Delphi 2006 editions).

My courseware manuals are also used by some training companies (who
license them from me), but they usually take 3 to 5 days per manual. In
my one day coverage, I only show the highlights, and tell the people
where to find the background material (in the manual).

I'm not sure which kind of topics you're looking for in an
intermediate/advanced class. Would that be pure languages issue, or IDE
usage, or specific development topics? (or all of the above ;-).

However, if there is interest, I'd even be willing to help someone a little
bit getting set up as a resource to bounce ideas off of. I'm a
Delphi hobbyist, but a professional educator. who's in search of a good
intermediate/advance beginner online Delphi class :-)

Im not sure if I can help, but at least I'm listening

Thanks -- Al C

I've always thought that some online programming classes would be a cool
idea. But I just don't have the time for many pet projects lately.

If you D manage to get the ball rolling you should setup a partnership.
I worked for a company that is huge in the area of online education and
could potentially broker a deal with them to distribute/buy the assets when
they're near completion. If that happens the contributors would make some
wads of cash. The company, a leader in online education, does not have any
software that teaches technology such as programming, and I'm sure they know
that they need it in their portfolio.

Hi Alan,

I'm not very good at Delphi as well, but I like your idea. I'm now
working though so my only free time is night time (philippine time). I'm
willing to help. Who knows, perhaps earn a little along the way.

Hi Al,

Such a course, whether on line or pre-recorded on DVD would be a great
idea with a usersgroup for the class. I'm all for it.

All the best,

Paule
